On Wednesday, Norfolk Southern Corporation announced the appointment of three industry leaders with experience in Precision Scheduled Railroading (PSR) to head up its transportation team.

According to the railroad Tim Livingston, Rodney Moore and Dewayne Swindall would join the company and report to COO John Orr. Officials said the new leadership structure would bolster accelerated operational improvements throughout the company. The changes will also put leaders closer to field operations, officials said.

“In the first half of this year, we have made measurable progress on safety and productivity,” Orr said. “I am pleased to bring together Tim, Rodney, and Dewayne as the right leaders to help us maintain meaningful momentum and make our progress sustainable. Their roles are crucial in our journey to be the gold standard of safety and execute our operational plan with excellence while being intentional about fostering a strong culture.”

Livingston will join the team as senior vice president of transportation and network operations. A career railroader, he brings more than 20 years of experience to the position, starting as a conductor and working his way up through many roles at Kansas City Southern Railway to vice president of operations for Canadian Pacific Kansas City.

Moore will report to Livingston as the vice president of transportation for the northern region. A 20-year veteran of Norfolk Southern, he joined the company as a management trainee and has served in a variety of operational leadership roles, including his most recent position as vice president of network operations. He will be responsible for the Northern region between Chicago and New York.

Swindall will also report to Livingston as the vice president of transportation for the Southern region. Swindall’s 25 year career started at Norfolk Southern as a train service employee in Birmingham, Alabama, and has held key leadership roles in Indiana Railroad, Canadian National and Genesee & Wyoming. He previously served as president, CEO and chairman of the board for Indiana Railroad.
