Connecticut conducting mobility study of I-95

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) recently launched the I-95 Mobility Study Fairfield/Bridgeport.

The study will identify projects along the I-95 corridor between Bridgeport and Fairfield that will improve safety, mobility, and operations.

The corridor is traveled by car and truck traffic, buses, bicyclists, pedestrians, Amtrak and Metro North Railroad.

“I-95 between Fairfield and Bridgeport is one of the most heavily traveled roadways in the state, carrying approximately 130,000 vehicles per day,” David Mancini, CTDOT project manager, said. “The outcomes of the planning and environmental linkages study will streamline CTDOT’s project development and environmental review of resulting transportation improvement projects, accelerating project delivery and minimizing overall costs.”

The study will follow the Federal Highway Administration’s Planning and Environment Linkages process, an approach that considers environmental, community, and economic goals early in the process.

CTDOT will hold a public information meeting on the study in the fall. The agency encourages businesses, community stakeholders commuters, and residents to share ideas on how to improve the corridor as well as their concerns regarding the project by taking a virtual survey.

The survey is available in English and Spanish on the project’s website .

CTDOT may adopt or incorporate results of the study into a federal or state environmental review process.
