Two Pennsylvania counties awarded $2.2M to replace, improve bridges

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) recently awarded Lycoming and Union counties $2.2 million in state funding.

“We, along with our municipal partners, appreciate the investment of this transportation funding in our rural communities which will improve public safety, modernize our transportation system and position us to remain economically competitive,” Union County Board of Commissioners Chairman Preston Boop said. “By having multiple levels of government all working together on this project, including support from our legislators, we are able to efficiently address an infrastructure need that positively impacts the daily lives of residents.”

Awardees are:

Union County Planning and Economic Development was awarded $1.4 million for the replacement of six municipally owned bridges in Hartley, Lewis, West Buffalo, and White Deer townships and New Berlin Borough.

Jersey Shore Borough in Lycoming County was awarded $710,691 for culvert and roadway improvements to Hazel Alley Bridge and for roadway improvements from the Pine Creek Rail Trail to the boat launch at the Susquehanna River West Branch.

Muncy Borough in Lycoming County was awarded $121,800 for the rehabilitation of the Carpenter Street Bridge.

The MTF provides businesses, councils of governments, economic development organizations, municipalities, ports and rail freight entities, and public transportation agencies with financial assistance.
