The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) recently opened the application period for its new Transportation Apprenticeship Program (TAP+).

“TAP+ addresses the critical need for skilled talent, ensuring a robust workforce for the future,” NCDOT Human Resources Director Amanda Olive said. “By investing in apprentices, NCDOT is building a pipeline of qualified employees who are passionate about transportation.”

The program, designed in partnership with NC Community Colleges, will provide hands-on training and career opportunities for aspiring engineering technicians, and serve as an entry-point for candidates who are seeking employment with NCDOT.

Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of the transportation industry and experience in various transportation-related fields. They will participate in a variety of projects including aviation, bridge work, construction, design, erosion control, integrated mobility, maritime, and rail.

During this first round of recruitment, applicants must have an interest in a transportation construction and engineering career, and must be currently enrolled in an associate of applied science program focused on civil engineering technology or survey/geomatics technology. Applicants also must have a strong work ethic and commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The apprentices will receive a wage with benefits during the program.
