25 Years Later: Tony Hawk Reflects on the Release of Original 'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater'

The game that changed it all! Can you believe it's been 25 years? I certainly can't. Tony Hawk recently hopped on Instagram to reflect on the impact the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater had on his life, skateboarding and gaming in general now that it's been around for a quarter century. Peep the clip below from an old 411VM segment and listen to what Tony has to say 25 years later.

"My intention and expectation for the game was mostly for the enjoyment of skateboarders. I had no idea it would transcend a niche market to become a massive success and—as some have argued—change the course of skateboarding’s popularity (and possibly even skate trick evolution)," Tony wrote on Instagram.

"It definitely changed the course of my life, and is a big reason that I get to ride my skateboard for a living to this very day. And most of the featured characters are still out there ripping and representing skateboarding’s diversity in the best ways possible."

"I poured myself into every aspect of this project because I believed we were creating something exceptional, and I am immensely proud of the series that followed… and their soundtracks," he concluded, but not without leaving us with a little cliffhanger: "I’m not supposed to tease anything else about the future of the series, but there will be a future."

Well, I know he's not supposed to tease anything else about the future , but that seems like quite a tease. Regardless, the THPS series is a huge part of modern skateboarding and made an impact on countless lives over the past 25 years. This dude just doesn't stop! Can't wait to see what else he has cookin'...but we're all just gonna have to wait.
