The sculpture is painted in a bright, almost fairytale-like theme that has been beautifully restored over the last decade - but what does it all mean?

Sculptor Weylande Gregory designed the statue as part of a larger art program during the New Deal, and the Light Dispelling Darkness Fountain is supposed to represent knowledge dispelling the forces of ignorance and darkness.
