The Pocono Mountains were once an exciting honeymoon destination during much of the 1960s and 70s. But today, most of these once-popular honeymoon resorts lay in abandoned decay.

The Summit Resort is one of those places. Although some of its structures have been demolished in recent years, its expanse of cabins and motel rooms lay accessible and completely frozen in time near the interstate in Tannersville.

The Summit was once an ultra-luxurious honeymoon hotel that opened in 1968.

From what we can see, old photographs reveal that the resort featured a plush, vinyl-clad heart-shaped bar, an Arabian Nights-themed club and cocktail lounge, a waterfall and koi pond, and romantic rooms complete with heart-shaped jacuzzi tubs.

What was once considered lavish and cool in the 70s and 80s quickly became "tacky" by the 1990s and early 2000s. The Summit closed permanently in September of 2002.

Today, the abandoned resort lies completely frozen in time in the middle of the woods. Many curious explorers have visited over the past two decades and the pictures and footage they have captured is absolutely fascinating.
