The results are in and New Hampshire and Maine have been determined as the safest states in the country with low violent and property crime rates.

Coming in at number 4 on the list was the Garden State.

Living in New Jersey, it can feel like we're constantly being bombarded by articles and news stories of disturbances and shoplifting.

But compared to the rest of the United States, New Jersey is actually pretty safe after all.

Most crimes that occur in NJ are concentrated in a small handful of cities. Whereas most smaller towns are incredibly safe. Data shows that the violent crime per capita was 195 per 100k people and the property crime per capita is 1,158 per 100k people.

Idaho, Rhode Island, Virginia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Wyoming rounded out the top 10 list and the most dangerous state in the country is New Mexico. To see the full list you can check the list out here.
