This Entire Neighborhood in Indiana was Eerily Abandoned

    2024-07-27

In a state like Indiana, it is not that unusual to come across a vacant building or ghost town. But there's something about this abandoned community that makes it particularly fascinating.

In fact, most people are completely unaware of this abandoned neighborhood hiding just a half hour from Louisville in the community of Charlestown.

Charlestown State Park is filled with beautiful hiking trails surrounded by the forest, but hidden within the park is a long abandoned neighborhood being reclaimed by nature.

Known as the River Ridge neighborhood, some of the roads that lead into the neighborhood are still perfectly paved.

There are plenty of empty homes here almost completely covered by trees and weeds and even an old pumping station and water tower.

The neighborhood is closed off to the public but one brave explorer has managed to get inside some of the old homes and the pictures are fascinating:

Some creepier aspects of the community include an old graveyard and toys from the 90s, when the neighborhood was abandoned.

Rive Ridge was formed during WWII when the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant was formed to help manufacture weapons for the war. However, after the Cold War ended in the early 1990s, the plant was demolished and many were forced to leave their homes.
