    Rite Aid to close eight more stores on Monday - is your local closing? Full list

    Rite Aid, the drugstore chain, has announced further store closures as part of its restructuring efforts. The company, which filed for bankruptcy in October to reduce its debt, will close eight more stores in Ohio and Michigan .

    This follows an announcement in June that it would shut down 85 outlets , predominantly in these two states. Since filing for bankruptcy, Rite Aid has declared the closure of 550 stores in total.

    The latest round of closures includes locations in Saginaw, Traverse City, Lorain, Youngstown, Ann Arbor, Ionia, Flushing, and Kenton.

    Last week, US Bankruptcy Judge Michael Kaplan approved Rite Aid's bankruptcy plan, allowing the pharmacy chain to cut $2 billion in debt and hand over control to a group of lenders.

    The company aims to exit bankruptcy within a month, backed by $2.55 billion in financing from its lenders.

    The eight closings announced on Monday include:

    • 4598 State St., Saginaw, Michigan
    • 1104 E. Front St., Traverse City, Michigan
    • 2583 Grove Ave., Lorain, Ohio
    • 4914 Youngstown-Poland Road, Youngstown, Ohio
    • 2980 Packard St., Ann Arbor, Michigan
    • 431 W. Lincoln Highway, Ionia, Michigan
    • 218 W. Main St., Flushing, Michigan
    • 130 S. Detroit, Kenton, Ohio

    Meanwhile, another US drugstore chain Walgreens has announced that it will be closing a number of its locations across the country . The company announced Thursday that it is planning “significant” closures of underperforming stores across America as part of a multiyear optimization program.

    Though they did not give a specific number of store closures, CEO Tim Wentworth said that “changes are imminent” for the roughly 25 per cent of stores that aren’t profitable.

    Wentworth added that this will “include the closure of a significant portion of these underperforming stores ,” over the next three years.
