Making Sense of the Flyers’ Travis Konecny Extension
On July 25, 2024, 27-year-old Travis Konecny signed what is now the biggest contract in the history of the Philadelphia Flyers: eight years, $70 million ($8.75 million average annual value)—it comes with trade protection and will begin in 2025-26. On the surface, it is objectively one of the worst deals handed out by any team this offseason, if not the worst. But is it really?
What Travis Konecny's Big Contract Means For Flyers Moving Ahead
What a week for fans of the Philadelphia Flyers! First, Matvei Michkov arrives in Philly wearing a Phillies hat. Then, on Thursday, the Flyers signed Travis Konecny to an eight-year contract to become to team's highest-paid player at 8.75 million. That's not bad. It's a lot of money, but it's not going to cripple this team moving forward. It's also right around the price that we figured he'd be given.

In recent weeks, the Phillies have seen issues beyond just their lack of offense. The starters, including the multiple All-Stars, have gone through a rough patch through multiple rotations. Other teams in the league are coming to the realization that it may be time to sell and re-group. The Detroit Tigers have come up in recent news that they will be sellers at the trade deadline come July 30.
Flyers’ 7 Best Moments at the Wells Fargo Center
The Philadelphia Flyers are set to undergo their fourth name change for their stadium which was built in 1996. Known as Wells Fargo Center from 2010 to today, the naming rights will be dropped after the 2024-25 season. While a stadium name might just be corporate branding and all, there...
Nick Sirianni's potential hot seat could land the Eagles an all-world replacement
The NFL is a "what have you done for me lately?" league. Nick Sirianni was once on top of the world, but now he is getting toppled on. The Philadelphia Eagles went from winning the NFC two years ago to being one more underwhelming season away from moving on from their head coach. I would say coordinator attrition hurt him considerably last year, but I would not move on from Sirianni just yet.

Following the Seattle Mariners' splashy trade for Randy Arozarena, it appears that the MLB hot stove is officially turned on. In a move to help bolster the Phillies' outfield, the team has acquired outfielder Austin Hays from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for right-handed pitcher Seranthony Domínguez and outfielder Cristian Pache. We have made the following trade: pic.twitter.com/RCYU2TOJT9— Baltimore Orioles (@Orioles) July 26, 2024 After being named the starting center fielder in the 2023 All-Star game, Hays has seen his fair share of struggles in the 2024 campaign. Thanks to his inefficiency against right-handed pitching, Hays has shared playing time in the Orioles'...
