PEORIA (25News Now) -At approximately 12:01 AM, the Peoria Fire Department responded to the 700 block of Caroline St. for a house on fire. Once on scene, fire crews reported light smoke coming from the roof of a two-story residential home. As the crew was upstairs, they reported smoke and fire in the bedroom. The fire was swiftly extinguished and brought under control.

A man remains hospitalized in a Peoria hospital following a late Saturday night shooting in the first block of South Cherry Street. According to a new release, Galesburg Police responded to a report of a shooting in the first block of South Cherry Street around 11:48 p.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, a victim of a gunshot wound was located in the street.
Pritzker signs bill creating new Department of Early Childhood
SPRINGFIELD – Gov. JB Pritzker signed legislation Tuesday creating a new cabinet-level state agency dedicated to early childhood education and development. The new Department of Early Childhood, which will become operational in July 2026, will take over programs currently housed across three state agencies, including funding for preschool programs, child care centers and the licensing of day care centers.
