No Arrests 1 Year After Greenbrier Man Killed on I-24 Last Christmas

    2023-12-26

Many people say that Christmas is the happiest time of the year, but for Stephanie Spaunhorst, it brings back bad memories. Stephanie said, "It's hard to be happy for a holiday that was the worst day of your life."

Chris Spaunhorst was shot and killed on Interstate 24 near East Nashville in what police have called a road rage incident. His wife is still demanding answers in his murder case and has said she will not stop until the person who killed him is caught.

Chris was the husband of five children and the father of five. The Metro Nashville Police Department said the killing happened on December 25, 2022, on his way back to Greenbrier from dropping off his mother in Smyrna.

"Another station put up a picture of his truck and said it was black, so I knew right away that it was him," Stephanie said. Stephanie called Chris's phone number more than sixty times before a dispatcher called her and told her the news.

A black Kia with chrome trim was seen on video from another car on I-24. Police think this car has something to do with the killing. A $20,000 prize is being offered by Crime Stoppers for information that leads to an arrest in the case. Other than that, not much has changed.

Stephanie said, "It still doesn't feel real." "I still feel like a zombie." I act like I'm there, but I'm not really there. Stephanie told News 2 that she wants the killer to be caught for their own safety and for the safety of other people.

She said, "As long as they're out there, it could happen again." "It hurts to know that they get to spend events like Christmas and Thanksgiving with their family while ours is missing and he didn't do anything."
