4 Dead and 2 Injured After House Explosion in Michigan

    2024-01-01

Four people were killed and two others were hurt in an explosion at a house 45 miles west of Detroit. The blast was loud enough to be heard from miles away, and the house was completely destroyed, with only the basement standing.

Six people were in the house, according to the police. Four of the people in the house died at the scene, and two others are in serious condition at the hospital. A blast happened around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, and the police said they still didn't know what caused it or if the victims were connected.

Lt. David Powell of the Northfield Township police told reporters on Saturday that the blast, which could be heard from about nine miles (14.4 km) away, threw things into the air that hit both sides of a nearby highway.

Powell told Local 4 News, "You have three dead bodies on the scene—it's terrible." "Just now, one of our officers got a call that someone had found debris on the other side of US Highway 23 with some paperwork on it. So, we went over and got it to see if it was from that, and it was from the house explosion."

"It went off like a bomb," a neighbor told the news source. It's hard for me to explain. "I've never seen anything so scary." Things were still falling from the sky when I got there.

ABC 7 in Detroit heard from a friend who said, "It sounded like something I remember from war." That loud. "I've never heard of anything this big from this far away, not even in war."

Marc Breckenridge, public information officer for Emergent Health Partners, told The Detroit News that police, fire, and emergency medical services were sent to the 8000 block of Winters Lane in Northfield Township soon after the explosion was reported by 911.
