It is crucial to ensure that animals receive their required daily exercise. The ordinance states that the level of subjectivity can vary among dogs, depending on factors such as age, health, and breed. There was no specific information provided regarding the criteria for daily exercise, however, the American Kennel Club states that this can differ based on the size and age of the dog.

There are several options available for dog exercise, such as walking, hiking, swimming, running up and down the stairs, and playing fetch or tug. Deltona has made additional changes to Chapter 14, which now include regulations on animal enclosures, weather protection, and car safety.

In order to ensure the well-being of dogs, it is crucial that shelters offer sufficient protection against extreme temperatures. In accordance with regulations, dogs are required to be relocated indoors when temperatures drop below 40 degrees. Additionally, when temperatures exceed 90 degrees, it is necessary to provide dogs with a fan to ensure that the temperature in their shelter remains at or below 90 degrees. The temperature has been increased from the previous 85 degrees.

New rules have been implemented for animal enclosures. According to the ordinance, the requirement is to have 25 square feet of open space, with an additional 25 square feet for each additional animal kept in the same enclosed area. The area was increased from the previous measurement of 20 square feet.

An ordinance states that it is important to always provide dogs, cats, and other animals with clean water, dry ground, and shade for protection from various weather conditions such as sun, thunderstorms, lightning, hail, hurricanes, tornados, tropical storms, flood waters, and winds exceeding 20 miles per hour. This ensures their well-being and safety during natural and manmade calamities.

In addition, it is important to note that leaving animals unattended in a car without proper ventilation is not recommended. In a recent development, a new ordinance has been put in place to safeguard individuals who rescue pets from vehicles. Under this ordinance, these individuals are now granted immunity from civil liability for any damage caused to the vehicle, provided that there was no reasonable means for the pet to escape without assistance.
