Oklahoma City Unveils Plans for Potential Tallest Skyscraper in the U.S.

    2024-01-24

There are reports of significant growth in the planned mega skyscraper in Oklahoma City. The developer has recently claimed that the building could potentially become the tallest in the United States. However, it remains uncertain whether these revised plans will be met with sufficient demand.

The Devon Tower in Oklahoma is the tallest building in the state, reaching a height of 844 feet. A new tower has been proposed for the Boardwalk at Bricktown, with a height that would surpass the current one by more than double, reaching an impressive 1,907 feet.

According to Scot Matteson, the developer of the Boardwalk at Bricktown, he expressed confidence in the future demand for the megatower in OKC due to the planned developments.

Matteson expressed optimism about the area's future growth, citing its appeal to employers and individuals seeking a vibrant living and working environment in the entertainment district.

The structure, standing at over 1,900 feet tall, would claim the title of the country's tallest and rank as the fifth tallest in the world. A notable modification is the addition of a 168-foot spire, reminiscent of the architectural element that contributed to the One World Trade Center's status as the tallest building in the United States.

"In comparing the heights, Matteson pointed out that their spire stands at an impressive 400 feet, while ours reaches a height of only 168 feet. However, even when considering the relative heights, including their towering 400-foot spire, we confidently maintain our position as the tallest," stated Matteson.

KOCO 5 inquired about any previous instances of a city of this magnitude having a structure of such immense proportions. Matteson stated that the decision to construct taller buildings was made in order to save costs, despite the alternative of building two shorter structures.

Matteson stated that in the event that the demand does not materialize, adjustments can be made to the plans, potentially resulting in a shorter tower. Construction is not expected to commence for at least another year or two.
