Ground Game Several cities in Texas, including Austin, San Marcos, Denton, Elgin, Harker Heights, and Killeen, have recently passed successful decriminalization ballot initiatives. The organization was involved in the San Antonio Justice Charter, a comprehensive reform package that was rejected by voters in May.

The charter aimed to decriminalize certain offenses and also included a provision that required police to issue citations and release individuals charged with a Class C misdemeanor.

According to Marijuana Moment, the proposed Dallas ballot measure aims to limit law enforcement's ability to arrest individuals for Class A or B misdemeanor cannabis possession, unless it is directly related to a high-priority felony investigation. Police would be prohibited from using the smell of cannabis as a basis for search and seizure, according to the proposed legislation.

According to the news site, the Lockhart measure contains mostly identical language. In a surprising move, the initiative would prevent the city from utilizing local resources to determine the composition of cannabis products, whether they contain marijuana or legal hemp.

In upcoming May elections, voters in Lubbock will have the opportunity to decide on a decriminalization resolution for their city.
