    2024-02-09

A man from Texas has been sentenced to 180 days in jail and 10 years on probation for drugging his wife's drinks in an attempt to induce an abortion.

In a recent development, Mason Herring, a 39-year-old attorney from Houston, has pleaded guilty to charges of injury to a child and assault of a pregnant person. The plea was entered on Wednesday, marking a significant turn of events in the case. The individual was initially accused of committing a serious offense involving assault with the intention of inducing abortion.

In a recent court hearing, Catherine Herring, who is currently going through a divorce, expressed her dissatisfaction with the length of the jail sentence. A mother shared that their 1-year-old daughter, who is their third child, was born approximately 10 weeks premature.

The child faces developmental delays and currently undergoes therapy eight times a week. Catherine Herring expressed her disbelief at the 180-day sentence for someone who attempted to kill their child seven times.

In March 2022, Catherine Herring informed authorities that her husband had started giving her lectures on the importance of staying hydrated and offering her water. According to her account, she fell seriously ill after consuming from a cup that had an unclear appearance. Her husband suggested that the cloudiness could have been caused by the cup or the water pipes being unclean.

Catherine Herring grew increasingly wary and started declining several other beverages that her husband presented. During her search, she stumbled upon discarded packaging for a drug containing misoprostol, a medication commonly utilized for abortion procedures.

A woman provided the police with videos captured by hidden cameras that she had installed in her home, even though her husband no longer resided there. Catherine Herring reported that one of them was seen mixing a substance into one of her drinks.

Mason Herring's attorney, Dan Codgell, stated that the plea deal and sentence were deemed reasonable. "It's a regrettable situation and Mason has acknowledged his accountability," Cogdell stated.
