SHERIDAN COUNTY, Wyo. – As the Elk Fire continues to affect Sheridan County, officials are implementing changes to evacuation statuses and road access. The Bighorn National Forest Service announced that the Elk Fire has expanded to 96,179 acres, with a recent increase of 3,692 acres. The fire is currently 28 percent contained, caused by lightning, and is being actively fought by 903 personnel. As a winter weather advisory is in effect, cold temperatures and precipitation are expected to help mitigate fire activity.
