Hospital for Special Surgery names medical leadership in Florida
New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery appointed new medical director roles in Florida. Sheeraz Qureshi, MD, is chief medical officer of HSS Florida and succeeds Douglas Padgett, MD, according to a July 22 news release. He has been co-chief of HSS Spine and holds the Patty and Jay Baker Chair in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. In the expanded role, he will oversee clinical operations and quality for HSS' Florida presence and work with HSS Florida CEO Tara McCoy to grow access to care.

CEDAR KEY, Fla. (WCJB) - Many North Central Florida residents have taken to social media to share their shark encounters both on the Gulf Coast and in the Atlantic Ocean. While there have always been reported shark incidents at Florida, 2024 has seemed to have an increase. In 2023, the state of Florida had 16 confirmed shark attacks. This year, there have been more than 10 cases so far.

Longtime Florida horseman Milton S. Hendry, 82, died June 27 in Crystal River, Fla. The native of Bay Springs, Miss., loved horses all of his life and first became professionally involved with show horses, reining horses, and barrel racing. He later rode at unsanctioned meets in the South and Midwest before receiving his jockey license to ride Quarter Horses in Louisiana in 1972. Before retiring from riding in 1986, he was a leading Quarter Horse jockey at Commonwealth Race Course in Louisville, Ky., and Pompano Park in Pompano Beach, Fla.
