TRENTON, N.C. (WNCT) – The Jones County community gathered Wednesday in Trenton for the groundbreaking of a new EMS site.

This substation will be off of NC 58 North right across the street from the Calvary Church. Officials said, as of now, response times to the outer edges of the county can take 15 to 20 minutes.

“With the new station, they’re able to cut down response times to five to eight minutes. For emergency services, that time is crucial,” Jones County Emergency Services Director Ryan Miller said. “It means a lot. It’s hands to people that need it the most at the most critical time they need it. Quicker response, quicker healthcare providing emergency medical care to the citizens.”

USDA funding and money from recent legislation is contributing to this project and a second proposed station in Pollocksville. The Trenton building will require no additional staff.

“I mean this is just a huge win for them,” Economic Development and Planning Director John Bender said. “It shows how much we appreciate them and how we want them to be able to take their job and do it to the best of their abilities.”

Both stations are expected to be open in 2025. The groundbreaking for the Pollocksville location is in August.
