A Trenton police officer is recovering from a significant head injury after a vehicle collision. Police say the incident happened Thursday morning near Second and Bridge streets. Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora says the officer and his K-9 were en route to assist state police with a high-risk call when he was struck by a driver who allegedly ran a stop sign. Police say the driver T-boned the officer’s cruiser, sending both vehicles crashing into a building. The officer was knocked unconscious and was bleeding from the head. The person who lived in the building that was struck told News 12 that he tried to help get the officer and the police dog out of the car. Another witness called 911. "His head from the front to the back was bleeding. The neighbors took off their shirts to try to stop the bleeding, and when I went to help he said ‘Get the dog first,’ and I called the cops,” says Matison Baker. The officer and the other driver were taken to the hospital in stable condition. The officer was released, according to the mayor. The K-9 was treated for a facial injury and released from the vet. "
