County plans to announce a dedication for Sycamore Point Park in Honesdale alongside river

Sycamore Point, Honesdale's newest park, is virtually complete and already being enjoyed for riverside walks, its boat launch and picnics in what historically was known as Industrial Point.

Wayne County Commissioner Brian Smith called it "a very nice park" at the Sept. 26 commissioners' meeting

County Clerk Andrew Seder said that all that is yet to be completed is the restroom facility. Seder said that once it is done, they can announce when the ribbon cutting will be, which is tentatively expected the third week of October.

The county, which owns the land, built the park in conjunction with the Lackawaxen River Trails nonprofit group which is working on a land and water trail network linking Honesdale with Hawley and beyond. One of the group's goals included the improvement of the existing boat access at the park's location where the Lackawaxen River bends opposite from its confluence with Dyberry Creek.

The park, developed by Woodland Design and funded by grants, includes a concrete path from off 12th Street by a handicapped-accessible slope as well as a staircase. The path follows alongside the river to the boat access. Overlooking this path is a park area with an iron railing, lawn and maple trees, and benches and picnic tables made of concrete. There are also three interpretative panels telling the legacy of factories and manufacturing at Industrial Point, information about nature visible there, and fly fishing.
