Novant Health’s sale, leaseback transactions yield $38 million so far
So far, Novant Health has reaped $38 million in its previously announced sale, leaseback transactions.<\p> The health system announced last week that it had begun a multi-phased real estate transaction that would include 21 facilities across Winston-Salem, Charlotte and Wilmington. It closed on its first set of 16 transactions earlier in May. See a full list of addresses in the first set below.<\p>
Triad industrial-equipment company continues to grow with acquisition
Greensboro’s Tencarva Machinery Company, a distributor and servicer of industrial and municipal flow control and process equipment, has made its 14th acquisition, adding a West Virginia specialized thermal coating and custom machining company.<\p> Tenncarva acquired Tri-State Coating & Machining of Salt Rock, West Virginia, near Huntington, W.Va.; Ashland, Kentucky; and Portsmouth, Ohio.<\p>
Cone Health pays $15M for 30 acres near planned AHWFB hospital
Cone Health has paid $15.25 million for 30.8 acres of land on Horse Pen Creek Road, about a mile down the street from where Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist has a planned $246 million hospital and $30 million ambulatory surgery center.<\p> The Greensboro health system confirmed to TBJ today that it purchased three tracts in northwest Greensboro.<\p>
PHOTOS: Luxury apartments complete cornerstone of HP mixed-use project
The Point, a new luxury apartment building that opened yesterday in downtown High Point, put the finishing touches on the cornerstone of Peters Development's emerging “Peters Quarters" project. <\p> The four story, 28-unit building is owned by Peters Development LLC, the commercial arm of Peters Holdings Corp. At 650 N Main St., The Point is just across the street from the headquarters building of Peters Holdings Corp. and the Lenny Peters Foundation.<\p>
Diamondback principal pays $17M for land for two Guilford developments
Companies controlled by Diamondback Investment Group principal Zach Tran acquired the land for two Guilford County subdivisions for a combined $17.2 million last month.<\p> TBJ reported last month on Diamondback's plans last month to develop Gardenia Walk in eastern Guilford and Vandalia Crossing in southern Guilford. The two developments are scheduled to deliver 1,044 lots over 220 acres. Diamondback received a $24 million construction loan from Mavik Capital Management for the development of two single-family developments that will also cover the land purchases.<\p>
Industrial Phoenix: Randolph County rising from the ruins
Randolph County is getting out of Purgatory.<\p> In the fall of 2012, CBS correspondent Scott Pelley invoked Purgatory Mountain, a hilltop near the North Carolina Zoo at Asheboro, to introduce a “60 Minutes” segment called “The Death and Life of Asheboro.” The city, and by extension Randolph County, served as the narrative personification of small cities across the country caught between the decline of traditional industries and the arrival of advanced-manufacturing or information- and technology-based jobs.<\p>
Some Truliant Credit Union member information exposed in data breach
Truliant Federal Credit Union members may have had some of their financial and personal information compromised in a data breach of a former third-party vendor.<\p> In a statement to TBJ, Truliant said it was notified on April 22 by Doxim, its former third-party print and digital document and statement provider, of a cybersecurity attack that resulted in unauthorized access to some of their data files, including Truliant files from 2012.<\p>
Manufacturer considering Forsyth County for $10M investment, 70 jobs
An unidentified company that would create at least 69 jobs and invest $10.5 million is considering a location in Forsyth County.<\p> A resolution going before county commissioners in June would authorize an economic-development package to the company worth up to $147,981 over five years. The company is also seeking state incentives.<\p>
How Randolph landed Ross' massive hub despite its workforce concerns
It was about a year ago that a consultant told Randolph County officials that a client company wanted to find a place to build a regional distribution center that could employ upwards of 1,500 people with an investment of $250 million more and asked if the county could help.<\p> Oh, yes, was the reply.<\p>
WFU alumnus elected first female chancellor of Winston-Salem State
Bonita Brown, a native of Welcome, N.C., and a double alumnus of Wake Forest University, has been chosen to lead Winston-Salem State University at a critical time for the Triad's sixth-largest school and second-largest historically Black university.<\p> The UNC System Board of Governors approved Brown in a special meeting Wednesday afternoon. Brown takes over for Anthony Graham, who had been serving in the position on an interim basis since the retirement of Elwood Robinson last June. It is unclear whether Graham will be returning to WSSU as provost, but UNC System President Peter Hans thanked him for his "thoughtful leadership ... during a transition when they needed him the most" and thanked him for what he "will continue to do in the UNC System." <\p>
Lawsuit targeting small-business grant program is tossed
A judge has tossed a lawsuit targeting Progressive Insurance and small-business funding platform Hello Alice for a grant program offered to Black small business owners.<\p> The decision, handed down by the U.S. District Court for Northern Ohio, found plaintiff Nathan Roberts, owner of Cleveland-based Freedom Truck DIspatch LLC, lacked the standing to sue the companies over a grant program it offered to Black small-business owners to purchase a new truck.<\p>
Gen Xers pass Boomers in Guilford workforce. How can employers adjust?
Workers born between 1965 and 1980 have replaced Baby Boomers as the largest age cohort in Guilford County, and employers would be well-served to take notice, says the organization behind the second annual survey of the county’s workforce.<\p> The so-called Gen X cohort occupies the largest number of roles in the Guilford County workforce, according to the Talent and Workplace Survey by Action Greensboro released today.<\p>

North Carolina's hospitality industry, hobbled by a shortage of workers after many fled the industry during Covid-19 shutdowns, decided to try to solve the problem.<\p> So the N.C. Restaurant and Lodging Association created the Serving Careers campaign, a statewide marketing and digital campaign aimed at raising.<\p>
Resume gaps aren't the dealbreaker they once were, but there's a catch
Job seekers worried about gaps in their resume might still have to deal with some pushback from hiring managers, but the market today has become more forgiving to such openings than it once was.<\p> According to a recent Express Employment Professionals-Harris Poll survey, while 36% of hiring managers said they might be deterred by applicants' unexplained work gaps, the vast majority (95%) believe there are valid reasons to explain career gaps. The top reasons cited were health issues, staying home with a child, going back to school and caring for an elderly parent.<\p>
Two Triad complexes ranked among top 10 U.S. soccer and lax facilities
Two NC sports complexes have been ranked in SportsEvents Media Group’s “Top 10 Soccer and Lacrosse Facilities in the US," and both are located in the Triad.<\p> Bryan Park Truist Soccer Complex in Browns Summit ranked sixth while Truist Sports Park in Bermuda Run was right behind in seventh place. Data for the list was gathered from a reader poll on social media.<\p>

UPDATED: Site revealed for 850-job distribution center coming to Triad
Ross Dress for Less won North Carolina economic-development incentives Tuesday for a distribution center in Randleman that would create 852 jobs over five years, and later confirmed it plans to build there.<\p> The N.C. Economic Investment Committee approved a package of incentives worth up to $8.4 million for Ross, which wants to build a 1.7 million-square-foot distribution center at the I-74 Industrial Center developed by Greensboro’s Samet Corp. <\p>
