Mexican-American restaurant to replace Courtside Café
A family-owned restaurant specializing in authentic Mexican breakfast food is coming to the former Courtside Café location in downtown Winston-Salem, which closed last week.<\p> Bagner & Alexa’s Downtown Café is owned and operated by Triad entrepreneur Bagner Olmedo. He and his family are planning to open the restaurant on July 1 — a quick turnaround from their final signing date on June 24 for the lease at 102 W Third St.<\p>

NC House passes Summerfield de-annexation bill, allowing Couch project
Developer David Couch has won his battle with the Town of Summerfield to build his proposed mixed-use project Villages at Summerfield Farms, which he has been trying to develop since 2016.<\p> The North Carolina House voted 83-72 today to pass House Bill 909, which will annex almost 1,000 acres from Summerfield for the development. The North Carolina Senate approved the legislation on Monday. <\p>
Novant Health layoffs impact 80+ local employees, more in SC
Conintuing a program from last year, Novant Health announced it will cut more 171 jobs in digital products and services, including 81 in Winston-Salem. <\p> Novant, which is based in Winston-Salem, is cutting 81 jobs at its office at 101 N. Cherry St., according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed on June 25. The layoffs are effective beginning Aug. 25. <\p>

Employers are turning to fake job listings as a means of boosting staff morale in the current unsettled hiring market, but those ghost postings could have consequences. <\p> That’s according to a recent Resume Builder survey, which found 40% of 649 hiring managers surveyed have posted a fake job listing in the past year. Three in 10 responded they have an active fake-job posting. <\p>
WFU medical school, HPU to develop dental residency program
Wake Forest University School of Medicine and High Point University are teaming up on a new program to train dentists in specialty areas.<\p> The two institutions signed a letter of intent today that opens the door for the development of a joint dental residency program. Dental residency programs would provide post-doctoral training in specialty areas such as general practice (hospital dentistry), pediatric dentistry, oral medicine, orofacial pain and dental anesthesiology.<\p>
