Local fire department and restaurant hosting a fundraiser for Ohio Valley 2-year-old facing rare heart condition

The McMechen Volunteer Fire Department, in partnership with MCVAY Advisory Group and Quaker Steak and Lube, is hosting a “Touch the Truck for Laiden” event.

This community fundraiser will take place on Sunday, August 18th, from noon to 8:00 PM at Quaker Steak and Lube in Triadelphia, WV.

The event is organized to support Laiden Schaefer, the 2 -year-old son of two members of the McMechen Volunteer Fire Department, who suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on July 5th. Laiden’s life was miraculously restored after approximately 45 minutes of CPR. After being transported to WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital in Morgantown, Laiden experienced a second cardiac arrest and was placed on life support. He is now off life support but is expected to face long-term challenges due to the lack of oxygen during CPR. Laiden will require extensive rehabilitation and ongoing care.

McMechen is raising funds to purchase a pediatric AED the family to have in their home., a crucial device that can save lives, and to assist Laiden’s family with their mounting medical expenses.

The event will have live music, auctions, a dunk tank, a bouncy house, karaoke and more.

Chief John Davis of the McMechen Volunteer Fire Department is calling on all neighboring fire departments and EMS to bring their vehicles for the “Touch the Truck” segment. Additionally, Chief Davis challenges all fire chiefs to take a seat on the dunk tank for a great cause.

Donations can be dropped off at 811 Marshall St. Mcmechen WV between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM 7 days a week
