Introducing GEN3: empowering our people and through them, our communities.
Boomerang Design is proud to announce the next generation of our firm, GEN3. With this generation we are creating opportunities for ALL to excel in their personal and professional goals. This means elevating key leaders who will champion our initiatives as we continue to realize our long-term succession planning strategy. Angela Crawford Easterday, AIA, NCARB has been named President of Boomerang Design. Angie began her career with us more than 25 years ago. Throughout her time with the firm, she has developed new and improved ways to leverage our team’s unique skills and expertise to better serve our clients’ diverse and growing project needs. A cornerstone of her tenure has been fostering our firm’s next generation of thought-leaders. As Angie takes the reins as our first female president, she is passionate about advocating for and supporting fellow female architects and leaders: through recruitment, mentorship, and professional development. Regarding this transition Angie says: “I am extremely proud to lead GEN3, and I cannot wait to see our team members spread their wings and discover, or rediscover, their passion for architecture and design. For the last few years, our firm leaders have been building the foundation of GEN3, and now is our time to see it all come to life.” Walking beside Angie are long-time Managing Principals, Rick Brown and James Golightly. Together, this team will maintain its focus on nurturing our vision for the firm, expanding our business operations and business development practices, and elevating our project management and client experience efforts. Duane Hutchins, RA has stepped into the role of Principal of our Raleigh operations. Of Duane, Angie says, “He uses the special ingredients of our Raleigh team and creates the ‘secret sauce’ that ups our competitive edge.” His ability to build genuine relationships with clients and the fun and focus that he brings to every project makes him the clear choice to cultivate our culture, build meaningful client partnerships, and navigate our project pursuits across Central and Eastern, North Carolina. Rob Buckanavage, AIA, LEED AP, has been promoted to the role of Principal overseeing the operations of our offices in Charlotte, Shelby, and Lexington. “Rob quickly gains the trust of clients through his dedication to their mission and attention to detail,” says Managing Principal, James Golightly. Rob’s fierce devotion to community-enhancing design, and his ability to openly communicate with project teams makes him the type of leader that both clients and colleagues want to work alongside. Stephen H. Wilt, AIA, NCARB, has been promoted to Principal of Quality Assurance across all offices. What stands out about Steve is his three plus decades of experience in planning, programming, architectural design, and construction administration. His extensive knowledge of successful project delivery is the force behind our firm’s Quality Assurance process. His leadership provides our team members with confidence in their abilities and inspires our clients’ trust in our firm. Together, these three will guide our GEN3 mentorship initiative to develop well-rounded architects that have a deep understanding of the entire project lifecycle. We’d also like to recognize Julie Driscoll, AIA, NCARB, who has been promoted to Project Manager. She will be actively involved in her clients’ projects while joining our firm’s strategic development efforts. Julie thrives on creating pathways for young people to pursue their interests in the A/E/C industry. This has led her to become involved with organizations like ReGroup Carolinas and The ROC. Her team members say, “Julie is approachable and knowledgeable, and this makes our profession and the design process accessible.” Kara Brewster, a fundamental part of our marketing team for nearly a decade, will now take on the role of Marketing Director. She is passionate about telling Boomerang Design’s story across inbound and outbound marketing channels. She recognizes the important role that marketing plays in the project process and is excited to be a key player in defining how GEN3 will be a part of our firm's business development strategy. About Boomerang Design: Our roots are in the Southeast. We first opened to the Shelby community in 1981 as a sole proprietorship. Today, Boomerang Design is employee-owned, with offices across Charlotte, Shelby, and Raleigh, North Carolina and Lexington, South Carolina. With women making up nearly 50% of our workforce and nearly 25% of our business being women-owned, Boomerang Design values and promotes diverse perspectives. This foundation is what makes us such strong, civic-minded architects. Historically, 80% of our clients are public institutions; and, as Carolina-based architects, we are invested in seeing our local communities thrive. The projects that we pursue drive learning, economic development, personal growth and well-being, community connectivity and so much more.
