Penguins cut 2024 draft picks Tanner Howe, Finn Harding from training camp

The Pittsburgh Penguins trimmed their training camp roster by two on Wednesday after forward Tanner Howe and defenseman Finn Harding were assigned to their respective junior teams.

Both players were part of the team’s draft class in June.

The left-handed Howe (5-foot-10, 175 pounds) was selected in the second round (No. 46 overall). In July, he signed a three-year entry-level contract that will begin once he turns professional.

Returned to the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League (WHL), Howe served as the captain of that team last season. In 68 WHL games, Howe led the Pats with 77 points (28 goals, 49 assists).

Howe, 18, appeared in one game this preseason with no points, three shots and four penalty minutes.

Harding, a right-hander, was selected in the seventh round (No. 223 overall). He is unsigned. Per Cap Wages, the Penguins hold his NHL rights until June 1, 2026.

A member of the Brampton Steelheads of the Ontario Hockey League, Harding (6-foot-1, 199 pounds) played in 68 contests for that team last season and scored 34 points (10 goals, 24 assists).

Harding did not appear in any contests this preseason.

Following these transactions, the Penguins now have 62 players remaining in camp.
