Pitt basketball experienced its first dose of adversity when wing guard Amsal Delalić, a freshman who arrived on campus as a top-30 European prospect, suffered a right hand injury during practice Wednesday afternoon. He is expected to miss six weeks and, potentially, the first game of the season Nov. 4 against Radford at Petersen Events Center.

“Amsal’s injury is a tough setback,” coach Jeff Capel said in a statement, “but one we certainly expect him to make a full recovery from. We are excited about what we have seen from Amsal throughout the offseason and eager to have him back at full strength.”

Delalic, a 6-foot-7 freshman from Bosnia & Herzegovina, played professionally in the Bosnia Division I and ABA League Second Division. He averaged 13.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game for Borac Netkar. He shot more than 40% from 3-point range (82 of 205) and 80% from the foul line in 23 Bosnia Division I games. He averaged 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 12 ABA League contests.

He began his career with Igokea in 2020 and also played for the Bosnia & Herzegovina national team in the 2020 U16 European Championship and the 2023 European World Cup qualifier.
