Delmont library teams with Yellow Bridge Brewing on fundraising beer

For some people, curling up with a glass of wine and a good book is a recipe for a lovely evening.

    But not everyone drinks wine.

Beer and a book can go together just as well.

With that in mind, officials from the Delmont Public Library reached out to nearby Yellow Bridge Brewing when they were brainstorming different fundraiser ideas. The result is the aptly named “Please Please Please Donate to the Delmont Library,” a festbier whose proceeds will help support library programs. Library officials will join Yellow Bridge brewers for an official launch party Oct. 4 from 6-9 p.m. at the brewery on Route 66 in Delmont.

For Yellow Bridge owner Ian Staab, it was a no-brainer.

“I’m a Delmont resident and my kids regularly go to the library,” Staab said. “And (library board member) Mallory Gamblin is a regular at the brewery. So between our shared interests, we decided to work together to help out the library.”

Festbiers are lighter lagers traditionally brewed for annual Oktoberfest celebrations. This one is 5.5% ABV, with roasted malt and a hint of caramel, Staab said.

“It’s got some roasty notes, but it drinks very crisp and bright,” he said. “We wanted something that was pretty approachable for an everyday beer drinker. We didn’t want something crazy hoppy or really fruity. And since we didn’t currently have a festbier in our line-up, we thought it’d be a good opportunity to bring a new style to what we offer.”
