U mad, bro?: George Pickens, Pete Rose, Pirates, county taxes -- Pittsburgh frustrations go beyond Steelers' loss

Steelers wide receiver George Pickens sits on the bench during a Dec. 23, 2023, game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Pittsburgh.

You’d think that after a blown lead on primetime to the Dallas Cowboys, angry Pittsburgh Steelers fans would overload my inbox and my social media mentions.

    You’d be wrong.

Oh, don’t misunderstand. There was plenty of bile and venom for me to read about the how the Steelers played. But I must admit, Pittsburgh, I’m highly impressed with the diversification of dissatisfaction this week.

There is so much more to get riled up about beyond just one Steelers defeat, and you touched a lot of the bases in this week’s U mad, bro?

Let’s start with an email from William. He wants to shake up the Steelers’ quarterback depth chart in a big way.

“I’d like to be the first to encourage the Steelers to go with Kyle Allen for the rest of the season at QB. Absolute pinpoint accuracy on his one pass (Sunday) night. Let’s catch lightning in a bottle and bump him up to #1 on the chart. Let’s go Kyle!”

William, you sent this email at 2:57 p.m. the day after the game. The third-string QB came in cold and completed a pass. This is Pittsburgh. You don’t really think you were “the first” to send me an email like this, do you?

“A small sample size but perhaps the best Steeler QB is 3rd string Kyle Allen. Without question 3rd string Mason Rudoph was last year.”

First of all, I do miss Mason “Rudoph.” But shouldn’t Russell Wilson at least throw an incomplete pass before we move him behind Allen?

By the way, William, my man Doug here beat you by roughly 67 minutes.

Let’s see what our friends from Benstonium have to say on the topic of Kyle All…oh no.

    You guys are not helping.

    Here’s one from Steve.

“Did you know the Pirates have won just as many postseason games as the Steelers since 2011? I guess with Pirates having made at least one head managerial/coaching change during that time, they were overreacting.”

I did know that! Did you know that Mike Tomlin has never had a losing seas… Never mind.

During the thunderstorm delay at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday night, Matthew took a jab at PNC Park’s warning track.

Do the Steelers have anyone they can cut to pay for a new one like the Pirates did to Rowdy Tellez?

    Not Kyle Allen, though. Obviously.

This is John. He disagrees with me and thinks Pete Rose deserves to be in the Hall of Fame because baseball is in bed with gambling advertising revenue.

He didn’t serve his time. It was a “permanent” ban. “Permanent” is different from “lifetime.” Permanent is … permanent. Rose being dead doesn’t change that.

Players and managers were never allowed to bet on baseball while Rose was playing. Bonds had five MVPs and 613 homers before steroid testing went on the books in MLB.

Perhaps you can see the difference?

On social media, I mentioned that the 67,380 in attendance for Steelers-Cowboys at Acrisure Stadium was the fifth-highest attendance ever for a Steelers game.

Yeah, um, that’s generally how supply and demand and capitalism work.

I know those concepts may not matter after the election, but for the time being, they still do.

Robert is frustrated about the Steelers’ offense.

“It’s about time Rooney recognizes he needs an offensive-minded head Coach!”

Meanwhile, it’s also about time we all recognize that the defensive-minded head coach’s defense has allowed 24 points over the last two fourth quarters.

John sent an email about George Pickens.

“For an organization so concerned about its brand and reputation, they continue to put up with Pickens being the jerk that he is.

All Tomlin had to say in the press conference is … ‘George Pickens failed to live up to the standards we have to be a Steeler. His behavior during the Dallas game was totally unprofessional and I will address it with him directly.’

Instead, we get the ‘snap management’ word salad. Thanks for nothing, Coach T.”

I agree with everything you said here except for including “the standards.” Hasn’t Tomlin given us enough about the “standard(s)” over the past 18 years?

Finally, I couldn’t help myself when I saw that Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato proposed a 46.5% property tax hike. So I fired off this post.

    I got this response.

The problem with that philosophy, sir, is that not everyone who would be absorbing this tax is as “rich” as you presume they are.

Honestly, the only thing that needs to go up 46% in Allegheny County is the Penguins power play. If Innamorato can make that happen, we can call it even.
