Conventions of all kinds pull attendees with common interests to one destination for multiple days of shared experiences. When you think of conventions, you may think of Comic Con, or a gaming-focused convention like TwitchCon, or political conventions.

But there are conventions across the world focusing on many different topics — from career-oriented conventions to novelties like the clown convention in Florida. There are also religious conventions, like those held by Jehovah’s Witnesses , which differ from their regular meetings.

This year’s theme is “ Declare the Good News ,” and the Eastern Washington location is right here in Tri-Cities. It’s expected to draw thousands of attendees to the Toyota Center this weekend and the next.

The event’s multiple installations are expected to bring over 13,000 in all to Tri-Cities. Visit Tri-Cities told the Herald this year’s convention has an estimated economic impact of $1.27 million.

The three-day convention’s first installation was last month. There are two remaining opportunities, from August 23 to 25 and from August 30 to September 1. Attendance is free.

The theme is centered around using faith in Jesus Christ to offset the slew of bad news online and in media.

Event experiences include videos based on bible stories, interviews and group discussions on good and bad news. There will also be baptisms, according to a news release.

“We are excited to work once again with city officials in the Tri-Cities to host our conventions,” stated local Jehovah’s Witnesses spokesperson, Nate Gibb, in the press release.

“These conventions are a highlight of the year for thousands of people who want to experience some positivity in their lives, and we are happy to enjoy the program once again in this welcoming and hospitable city.”
