A 22-year-old man driving a stolen car is accused of leading Kennewick police on a chase that ended in a dramatic crash on Canal Drive.

Kennewick officers noticed the stolen Honda Accord in the Rite Aid parking lot on North Ely Street about 11:20 p.m. Saturday, according to a police Facebook post .

The Honda was stolen earlier in Pasco, so officers tried to get the driver to pull over, Kennewick police said. Jaden Love allegedly sped away.

The light traffic and lack of pedestrians allowed officers to pursue the Honda, police said.

Police soon noticed a burning smell and saw smoke coming from the car, as it neared the intersection of North Volland Street and West Canal Drive, police said in the post.

The driver lost control of the Honda as it reached the intersection and railroad overpass, and the car jumped the curb and hit a retaining wall, police said.

Love and three passengers started to run, but three of them stopped when police ordered them to. One man, John Velazquez, was caught a short distance away and cited with obstruction, said police.

No one was seriously hurt in the crash.

Two women in the car were released but Love booked into Benton County jail on suspicion of attempting to elude police, possessing a stolen car and having a controlled substance after officers found methamphetamine when they searched him, Commander Isaac Merkl told the Tri-City Herald.
