A 28-year-old man was arrested Monday, nearly 24 hours after he allegedly shot his mother and stepfather outside the Franklin County house they shared.

Daniel Arceo-Martinez, 28, was caught by Moses Lake police near a homeless encampment behind the Fairchild Cinemas about 3:30 p.m. Monday, Moses Lake police said on Facebook.

He was wanted on a $1 million arrest warrant issued by Franklin County Court Commissioner Arthur Klym for two counts of first-degree assault.

Neighbors heard gunshots about 5:30 p.m. Sunday and called 911.

Maria Martinez, 57, and Francisco Chavez Calvario, 49, were found wounded outside their home at the former Air Force housing at 9090 Sagehill Road, court documents said.

The rural area is east of the Scootney Reservoir, about 13 miles south of Othello and 40 miles north of Pasco.

People rushed the couple to Othello Community Hospital in their cars before deputies arrived.

Martinez was hit in the leg. Her wounds were not life-threatening, and she was moved to another hospital.

Chavez Calvario was hit in the torso and was in critical condition, said officials.

Arceo-Martinez reportedly drove off in a white 2009 Chevy Impala, with a license plate number of BRE7894, according to the sheriff’s office.

He left behind the .40 caliber handgun used in the shooting, said court documents.

    History of assault

Arceo-Martinez has a history of attacking his stepfather. He was sentenced to a year in prison in 2017 after he used a shovel handle to hit Chavez Calvario in the head, ribs and leg.

Arceo-Martinez claimed at the time they had an argument about him smoking marijuana in the house.

He told officers that his stepfather swung first and then he grabbed the handle to an old shovel and hit his stepfather several times, according to court documents.

He pleaded guilty to third-degree assault in Franklin County Superior Court.
