Chiawana, Kennewick, Richland roll over MCC opponents in Week 2 contests

For the second consecutive week, the majority of Mid-Columbia Conference football games were blowouts.
Only the Walla Walla at Hermiston contest, which was decided by one score, was close.
The biggest surprise may have been Chiawana taking down Kamiakin 44-0 last Thursday night — not that the visiting Riverhawks won; but that this game was never close.
Remember: the two teams battled in overtime games the previous two seasons.
Chiawana — which opened the season Sept. 7 on the road in the Boise area by getting clobbered by Rocky Mountain 42-7 — was intent on forgetting that loss by using a solid defense and efficient offense.
Meanwhile, Kennewick and Richland continued their winning ways with blow-out victories.
Here’s a look at last weekend’s games:
CHIAWANA 44, KAMIAKIN 0: Taytan Cissne grabbed a fumble on the game’s first play from scrimmage and ran it back for a 20-yard touchdown play.
The Riverhawks never looked back.
Chiawana harrassed Kamiakin quarterback Trent Woodhouse into three interceptions, and the Riverhawks’ defense forced two more fumbles for the win.
“We had a feeling we would turn things around this week,” said Chiawana coach Scott Bond. “It took some hard coaching, though.”
Bond said that his team will use that season-opening loss to heart the rest of the season.
“The thing we learned is that we will have no letdown,” he said. “We want to be at that level all of the time.”
Leading the way offensively for the Riverhawks was Braxton Feldmann, who carried the football 25 times for 184 yards. He also caught 3 passes for 31 yards for 215 total yards of offense.
“Offensively, we felt great,” said Feldmann. “The physicality was there. We really put our heads down and did the work.”
Scott Biglin had no excuses after the game for his Kamiakin team.
“They did everything we expected them to do,” admitted Biglin. “They were fast and physical. We didn’t come to play, and I did a horrible job of getting the team ready to play.”

KENNEWICK 52, SOUTHRIDGE 6: The visiting Lions used an aggressive defense to keep Southridge’s Wing-T offense under control.
“We worked hard to stop the Wing-T,” said Lions head coach Randy Affholter. “Our defense has done a lot of film study. And we’ve had some experience with it over the past few years in the playoffs.”
Kennewick stopped Southridge on its first two offensive possessions, and in turn, the Lions responded with touchdowns — a 3-yard Dawson Gebers run, and an Alex Roberts fumble that he recovered and then rambled 40 yards for another score.
Roberts would later add a 15-yard TD run; Dominic Driver would connect with a 48-yard scoring strike with Chase Taylor; and Lions linebacker Jakob Gay would strip a Suns running back of the ball — pick it up himself — and run in for a 15-yard touchdown.
Roberts finished with 100 yards rushing on 8 carries, while Driver was 6-for-8 for 98 yards passing.
Gabe Borisch led Southridge with 92 yards rushing on 22 carries. He also scored Southridge’s lone touchdown on a 2-yard run.
In the span of seven days, Matt Johnson’s Southridge Suns experienced a rollercoaster ride in the MCC — beating Pasco 60-14 on opening night, to losing badly to Kennewick.
“We’re young,” said Johnson. “We’ve got a lot of sophomores and juniors. But that’s the best defensive line we’ve faced. They were tough and physical.”
RICHLAND 48, HANFORD 0: Jackson Woodard passed for 306 yards and five touchdowns to lead the visiting Bombers over Hanford at Fran Rish Stadium.
Four of those TD passes went to Brady Bocek, who caught 4 passes for 81.
Preston Bryant led all receivers for Richland with 9 catches for 134 yards. Jake Brannon added 118 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 13 carries.
Defensively, Sylen Kissel-Kauhane led the Bombers with 9 tackles (1 for loss), while Cannon Weikum added 7 tackles, and Koen Hanson had 4 tackles and a fumble recovery.
Troy Jensen had 173 yards passing for Hanford, while Asa Perkes led the Falcons with 10 tackles.
WALLA WALLA 12, HERMISTON 7: Owen Godinez scored from 1 yard out with 11:50 remaining in the game, and the visiting Blue Devils held on to beat the Bulldogs.
Godinez connected with Derrick Bingham for a 60-yard touchdown pass for Wa-Hi. Bingham finished with two receptions for 76 yards.
Hermiston’s lone touchdown came when Nathan Waelty caught a 64-yard pass from Aaron Villarreal.
Waelty finished the night with 5 catches for 100 yards.
WEST VALLEY-YAKIMA 48, PASCO 0: Drayden Birley had 365 yards passing with 4 touchdowns to lead the visiting Rams to a non-league win over the Bulldogs at Edgar Brown Stadium on Friday.
