Washington state is full of towns and cities worth visiting, whether you’re two towns over or across the state. From ski towns to tiny communities in the forests, from ghost towns to rapidly growing cities, Washington has it all.

Some of these destinations are more popular than others, particularly around special occasions. Central Washington’s Bavarian-inspired village is a highly popular and well-known place, especially around the winter holidays. But it’s also known for its Oktoberfest celebrations.

In fact, Leavenworth, Washington in Chelan County has been named one of the best places for Oktoberfest celebrations in the U.S.

According to travel site Visit USA Parks , there are seven places in America with the best Oktoberfests in the country . The list includes several Bavarian-inspired towns, like Frankenmuth, Michigan at number one, Helen, Georgia at number five, and Washington’s own Leavenworth at number six.

It also includes big cities that transform for the occasion, like Cincinnati’s annual Oktoberfest Zinzinnati at number two and Denver at number seven.

The list mentions Leavenworth’s beginnings as an Alpine village, a rebrand following the economic lows of the depression that hoped to increase tourism. Since then, seasonal celebrations have been part of the town’s agenda, including Maifest and Oktoberfest .
