    Initial charges dropped, new charge for man accused of entering home in Trinity

    TRINITY, Ala. (WHNT) — A man originally arrested after being accused of entering a home, grabbing a child, and locking himself in the bathroom has a new charge after several charges were dropped against him Thursday, according to court records.

    According to Trinity Police Chief Randy Hughes, the incident took place along Lamon Drive on Wednesday morning around 7:30 a.m.

    Hughes tells News 19 that the man identified as 41-year-old Melvin Nickson Jr., came out of the bathroom with the child a short time later after officers told him to.

    Nickson was arrested and transported to the Morgan County Jail. He was initially charged with first-degree burglary and kidnapping and criminal mischief.

    According to court documents, the first-degree burglary and kidnapping charges were dropped after a hearing Thursday morning and Nickson was then charged with third-degree burglary

    The child involved did not have any injuries.

    The incident remains under investigation by the Trinity Police Department.
