More world-class musicians are coming to Trinity and Humboldt counties this month, with a series of concerts presented by the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival. Called “CLASSICAL MIXTAPES,” this series of shows will feature selections from some of the greatest hits across eras of music, including elegant classics by Mozart and Haydn, passionate romances by Amy Beach and Clara Schumann, heart-breaking elegies by Anton Arensky and Francis Poulenc, and the full dramatic force of the great Ludwig van Beethoven. The strings will also showcase John Mackey’s piece Wrong Mountain Stomp, which takes a classical string trio and creates a Wild West atmosphere of old-time fiddle music and American folk dances.
UPDATE: Fire crews have a hose lay and bulldozer-built fire line set around Dersch Fire
Crews at the scene of a grass and brush fire off Dersch Road near Highway 44 reported that there is a fire line built by bulldozer and a firehose line also laid around the entire blaze. The fire was at 50 acres and 5% contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. ...
880 residents without power in Trinity County, Thursday
TRINITY COUNTY, Calif. — The Trinity Public Utilities District (PUD) website shows that 880 residents are without power Thursday night. The outage spans from Weaverville up to Coffee Creek. There is no estimated time for restoration at this time.
Highland featured artist Wilson Jensen paints rural life
Painter Marjo Wilson Jensen will be singing at the annual 4th of July Artisan and Craft Fair, 2 to 3 p.m. in the Highland Art Center meadow, 691 Main St., in Weaverville. After the Art Walk, when Marjo returns to her hometown of Covelo, her rural-themed art will remain in Trinity County for the month as the featured exhibit of Highland Art Center. Trinity County Arts Council’s Art Walk, held from 5 to 8 p.m. the first Saturday of every month at participating galleries and businesses in Weaverville, will offer a great opportunity to see some of Marjo’s work in person.
Heatwave | No break this week for Humboldt County interior valleys
A multi-day heatwave will bring extremely hot weather to interior valleys in Northern California this week. Temperatures are expected to reach 110 degrees for four days straight in Hoopa. The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning from 11 a.m. Wednesday to Saturday evening in Weitchpec, Willow Creek, Orleans and Hoopa.
