BRANTWOOD — Tripoli School District alumni and faculty are preparing to gather on Aug. 2-3 at the Palmquist Farm in Brantwood for a reunion of all past graduates and anyone who attended the former school district.

The last graduating class of Tripoli High School was in 1969. The high school then closed and consolidated with Prentice School District. Tripoli Elementary School was closed in 2005 and students were bussed to Prentice.

An alumni committee is organizing the reunion, headed by Don Wanie. This is the fourth all-class reunion in the past eight years and will be attended by approximately 100 who enjoy sharing fond memories of their time at the school.

Activities start with a fish fry at The Garage Bar and Grill from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, followed by an old-fashioned ice-cream social starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Palmquist Farm.

The event continues with a gathering of all attendees at the Palmquist Farm at noon on Saturday, Aug. The 4-H club will provide food and photos will be taken along with more reminiscing.

The first Tripoli school was a shanty that opened in 1903 on the Lincoln County side of U.S. 8, and was used for about a year until a two-room log building was made the school and eventually the town hall, according to “History of Lincoln, Oneida and Vilas Counties,” by Jones, McVean and others. A two-story grade school and junior high opened in 1912, and Tripoli High School was built in 1923. A former logging camp movie theater was moved to the site to serve as the auditorium and gymnasium.
