There is a vast difference between being hungry and knowing hunger.

Each year, the Pike County Salvation Army’s Empty Bowls Luncheon helps feed the hungry here at home -our friends and neighbors, said Donna Kidd, Pike County Salvation Army Service Center manager.

“The Pike County Salvation Army’s Empty Bowls Luncheon is set for 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on April 5 at Bush Baptist Church in Troy.

For a $20 donation, each participate will enjoy a home-made soup bar with dessert and tea/water. Each supporter of the Empty Bowls luncheon will have the opportunity to take an empty, hand-made clay bowl to take home as a reminder of those who know what it feels lie to truly be hungry.

Musician and singer Ed Whatley will entertain during the dinner hours. Potter Greg Amann will share the Potters Story during his potter’s demonstration.

Empty Bowls will also feature a silent auction with items made/crafted by local craftsmen and those donated by local businesses including a free oil change, signed football from Troy University and Auburn and a Nick Saban print.

Auction-quality items are greatly appreciated. Donation will be accepted at the Salvation Army Service Center on South Brundidge Street in Troy throughout the week.
