The annual Empty Bowls fundraiser for the Pike County Salvation Army is set for Friday, April 5 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the fellowship hall of Bush Baptist Church on George Wallace Dr. in Troy.

Donn Kidd, Pike County Salvation Army service center manager, said the Empty Bowls Luncheon is a reminder of hunger through the world and how blessed we are here in America to have so many who have hearts for others.

Kidd said Empty Bowls 2024 includes a variety of home-made soups, desserts and tea and empty hand-made clay bowl to take home as a reminder that 42 million Americans are among the millions of people of all ages around the world who face hunger every day.

Empty Bowls 2024 will feature popular singer/musician Ed Whatley from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. A recently added featured attraction is potter Greg Amann.

“As Greg demonstrates throwing a bowl on the wheel, he will share ‘The Potter’s Story,’” Kidd said. “It is beautiful reminder that God is the potter and we are the clay.”

Greg Aman’s presentation will be at noon.

The Pike County Salvation Army has planned a great lunch, wonderful music and stories and a silent auction to be shared with family and friends. Tickets are $20 and all funds raised support the services of the local Salvation Army and its Food Pantry.

Empty Bowls will also feature a silent auction with items made/crafted by local craftsmen and those donated by local businesses including a free oil change, signed football from Troy University and Auburn and a Nick Saban print.

Auction-quality items are greatly appreciated. Donations will be accepted at the Salvation Army Service Center on South Brundidge Street in Troy throughout the week.
