The sign was front and center at the entrance of the popular Pig Café on South Three Notch Street in Troy. However, on Friday, diners were more interested in the meat and three menu than reading the sign, until….

“It said what?” And, the line formed a circle around the disturbing sign – “Today is our last day open. We will be moving all our operations to our downtown location.”

After 27 years, on April 19, 2024, the iconic Pig Café closed its doors,

As word spread around town that “the Pig is closing” there was disbelief.

“The Pig’ has been a part of the Garrett family food business as long as most can remember. On Friday, the Garretts gathered for dinner and shared memories of family fun ….”and food!”

The Pig Café is owned by Yanni and Denise (Garrett) Tempelis, who also own The Market on the square in downtown Troy.

“We realized that it would be better to be all under one roof,” Tempelis said. “The Market has prepacked foods and which are becoming more popular. It will be a good move for us.”

Steve Garrett, who owns Piggly Wiggly 231 and the Piggly Wiggly on South Three Notch Street, said future plans are to expand the grocery store into the café area but that’s down the road.

“We are looking forward to having both businesses at one location and to serving families and friends at The Market,” Tempelis said.
