The Bible is being read without ceasing at the 2024 Bible Reading Marathon at the gazebo on the square in downtown Troy. The Bible Reading Marathon leads to up the National Day of Prayer the first Thursday in May.

The Bible Reading Marathon is an opportunity for people of all ages to read from and listen to the Bible being read alive in a public place.

Elvira Spivey said she is passionate about hearing the Bible being read aloud.

“The Bible tells us that God’s Word will not return void,” Spivey said. “So, someone will come to know the Lord by hearing God’s Word read or a prayer being spoken or, maybe, just the touch of somebody’s hand.”

Linda Adams, Salem-Troy Baptist Association, said the Bible Reading Marathon began at 6 a.m. Monday and will conclude at noon on Thursday. At that time, the National Day of Prayer will be observed also on the downtown square.

The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance designated by the United States Congress and held on the first Thursday in May when people are asked “to turn to God in prayer and meditation.”
