The Johnson Center for the Arts will host an artist’s reception from 5 until 7 p.m. tonight, May 9, for exhibiting artist Cesar Garcia.

Everyone is invited to come meet the artist and learn more about his artwork and enjoy the fellowship that always accompanies an art event.

Andrea Pack, JCA director, said Garcia’s first encounter with the arts was in his uncle’s studio. There, he spent countless hours unleashing his creative abilities using various media, materials and techniques.

“I am self-taught,” Garcia said, as he walked through his exhibit, titled ‘The Message Within’ to take a last look before the exhibit opens tonight. “I have the passion of my granddaddy when I paint. I unleash that passion in an abstract way, very abstract.”

Garcia’s paintings have a pop culture hint.

“I like rock ’n roll music and I like ’90’s music; I like Pink Floyd,” he said. “Sometime I even throw paint on canvas.”

Garcia’s work is often big and bold; then, at times, the lines are so thin that they become almost invisible as they cross the canvas. Viewers are taken on visual journeys to places near and far, places seen and unseen.

Garcia is always looking for new ways of exploration and experimentation and, the journeys he takes are experienced through the senses.

Everyone is invited to the artist’s reception tonight at the JCA. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
