Congress and the President of the United States, Joe Biden, have designated May 15, 2024, as Peace Officers Memorial Day.

The City of Troy will hold a Police Memorial Service honoring fallen officers Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Police Officers Memorial in the Troy Municipal Complex.

There are about 900,000 law enforcement officers serving in communities across the United States, including the dedicated members of the Troy Police Department who play an essential role in securing the rights and freedoms of the citizens of Troy, Alabama.

It is important that all citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards and sacrifices of the Troy Police Department and recognize their duty to serve the people by safeguarding life and property by protecting them against violence and disorder and by protecting the innocent against deception and the weak against oppression.

Troy Mayor Jason A. Reeves calls upon all citizen of Troy and upon all patriotic citizens to observe the week of May 12 through 18, 2024, as Police Week with appropriate ceremonies and observations in which all our people may join in commemorating law enforcement officers, past and present, who, by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities, have rendered a dedicated service to their communities and, in so doing, have established, for themselves, an enviable and enduring reputation for preserving the rights and security of all citizens.

“I further call all citizens of Troy to observe Wednesday, May 15, as Peace Officers Memorial Day in honor of those law enforcement officers who, through their courageous deeds, have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community or have become disabled in the performance of their duty, and let us recognize and pay respect to the survivors of our fallen heroes.

    Law Enforcement Torch Run Friday

The Troy Police Department will participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run on Friday to raise awareness for the Special Olympics.

Officers will assemble in front of the Police Department at 2:30 p.m.

Troy Mayor Jason A. Reeves will speak briefly followed by a few words from Troy University Chief George Beaudry, Sr. and Troy Police Chief Randall Barr. Officers will depart the station at 3 p.m. with the finish line in front of the Quad on the Troy University campus.
