Ashlee Stephens’ passion for her community brings her to DaySpring Hospice

Troy native Ashlee Stephens brings her 16 years of experience in hospice care to DaySpring Hospice.

DaySpring is a privately-owned hospice with offices in Enterprise, Dothan and Andalusia serving these communities since 2003. Hospice care concentrates on end-of-life care for patients. Stephens serves as the community liaison for the Enterprise and Troy areas. DaySpring covers all of Houston, Geneva, Covington, Dale, Pike and Coffee Counties.

Stephens graduated from Charles Henderson High School in 2000 and went on to earn her degree in marketing from Troy University in 2005. She worked in hospice previously for more than a decade.

“I really got into hospice work because of my desire to help with people dealing with end of life care,” she said. “That’s obviously a very sensitive time in your life and at a time that everyone should know their options and be educated on their options and be able to know the services available to you at home or a nursing home – whatever you call home – and be able to spend that time peacefully.”

Stephens is also the Chairman of the Pike Liberal Arts School Board, serving in that role since last August. Her husband, Kevin, is a farmer in the area and the couple have four children – Mary Holland, Cope and twins Birdy and Strother – which provides for a busy and full life outside of her work. Stephens said that hospice care is her passion.

“I’m very passionate about serving my community – serving my people – and my love and passion for hospice care and helping others weighed a little more heavily on me than I originally thought,” she said. “I can’t imagine doing anything else.”

Stephens now works in hospice care with DaySpring.

“DaySpring is a privately owned company, which I think is so important,” Stephens emphasized. “Our co-owner is in the office and making decisions right along with us every day. It’s really just a great company to work for.”

As a community liaison for hospice care, it’s Stephens job to inform the community of their options at a very important and difficult time.

“The main thing when I go out and talk to people is we focus on quality of life, whatever that looks like for each person,” she said. “We don’t focus on quantity, we focus on quality and making those days the best days they can possibly be.”
