The Pioneer Museum of Alabama has planned a full day of activities in celebration of Independence Day, July 4, (Thursday) and will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. with Fourth of July events from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Barbara Tatom, museum director, said a special event of the day’s activities will be the dedication of the Locklar Rolling Store, 1947-2002, a recent addition to the Pioneer Museum of Alabama.

A presentation by Ceciel and Faye Locklar at 11 a.m. in the museum’s Main Street area will focus on the history of the Locklar Rolling Store. The Locklars will share personal stories about their years in running the rolling store.

The dedication of the Locklar Rolling Store will follow on the museum grounds.

A full day of activities has been planned in the main building and on the museum grounds for all ages.

On the museum’s Main Street, Allan Wood will entertain with music and song. The Pike County Master Gardeners will also be on Main Street demonstrating how to make a sun catcher.

There will be children’s activities in the main building and outside, weather permitting.

The pioneer museum’s Artemis I moon tree will be unveiled.

Fried apples and ice cream will be served beginning at 1 p.m. while supplies last.

“Bring the entire family and have a fun, educational day,” Tatom said.

Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors ages 60+ and military with ID, and $8 for students. Children ages five and under and Pioneer Museum of Alabama members are free.
