The staff of the Pioneer Museum of Alabama is always looking for new and different ways to promote the museum and to make visitors’ visits more informative and more enjoyable.

Barbara Tatom and her staff realized that a change in the museum’s exterior signage would make it more attractive and provide information that would make

“The exterior signs that we had were different colors, different sizes and made from different materials,” Tatom said. “Not only were the signs unattractive, for the most part, they only provided the name of the building and pointed the way. We needed new signage that would be uniform more attractive and informative. So, we applied for a Daniel Foundation Grant to fund the new signage project. Fortunately, and appreciatively, the museum received grant funding for the project.”

The new signs are up and, already, they are making a difference in the self-guided tours.

“The new signs are metal and brown with yellow lettering,” Tatom said. “Each sign features the Pioneer Museum of Alabama’s logo. The signs are attractive and informative. Already, we have noticed that those who tour the outside grounds are staying longer because they are reading the signs.”

The signs are a great and much needed addition to the museum grounds and provide information that will make tours even more meaningful, Tatom said.

“We are very grateful for the Daniel Foundation grant that enabled the Pioneer Museum of Alabama to do more so that visitors will have a greater understanding of, and appreciation, for those who pioneered Alabama.”
