Maggie Hammond has taken the reins as president of the Troy Arts Council.

She joined the Troy Arts Council Board in 2019 and served as vice president 2022-2024.

Hammond said she appreciates the opportunity to serve as president of the TAC and working with a dedicated and energetic board.

“One of the focal points under past president Dave Camwell was performances especially for elementary children,” Hammond said. “The TAC will continue offering performances to local schools.”

Previous shows included a Louis Armstrong tribute, Artrageous, and a play about Einstein, Hammond said.

On October 18, the TAC will invite all local elementary schools in Pike County to a performance by the John Bull Band.

“John Bull teaches with the Alabama Blues Project and is a member of the Alabama Blues Hall of Fame,” Hammond said.

That evening the John Bull Band will perform in downtown Troy on the Square in a blues concert open to the public.

“We plan on collaborating with other local arts and cultural organizations next year, including the Johnson Center and the Pioneer Museum,” Hammond said.

Remaining performances for 2024 include the IKS Big Band from Germany on August 11, at the Claudia Crosby Theatre; the Brasilia String Quartet on September 22 at the Johnson Center for the Arts, the John Bull Band October 18 on the Square, and the annual Shelia Jackson & Friends concert on December 6 at the Claudia Crosby Theater.

Hammond said the TAC will announce its 2025 season at the concert on October 18.
