Containment increased to 60% as firefighters made significant progress yesterday securing the fireline. Crews completed initial mop-up for most of the fire area, gridding 100 feet into the black from the fireline, to search for and extinguish lingering heat. Firefighters assigned to the eastern spot completed hose lays three-quarters of the way around the perimeter, with engines working in areas where hose cannot be laid. Yesterday, a snag fell down creating visible smoke from the interior of the eastern spot; crews quickly responded and cooled the area with water. While mop-up operations continue, interior smoke may still be visible from time to time.

The drought of 2021 was hard on nearly all of state agriculture, which included a hay shortage. Now throw in a con man to further hurt family operations. Jory D. Parks of Logan, Kansas pulled a fraud on Facebook, advertising hay in large quantities for sale, and offering to deliver into Montana and Wyoming. He received advances from ranches desperate for hay for their livestock. You guessed it, Parks pocketed the funds for his personal and business use, without delivering the forage.

LAUREL — Liam Clancy survived what turned into a marathon of a final round at the 107th Montana Men's State Amateur at Laurel Golf Club. A near two-hour weather delay halted play midway through the final round Saturday. Clancy, a Billings Central and University of Wyoming and Montana State Billings golfer, fired a 4-under par 68 to chase down leader and current Rocky Mountain College golf coach Nathan Bailey (plus-1, 73).
